As we move into Spring and Summer, it is that time again for Spring Cleaning. That ritual of going through the home and getting rid of things you no longer need, donating old clothes, or sprucing up your living room....

Why not do this for your job search, too? Now is the perfect time to "clean" that resume out, spruce up your language, and get that dream job!

A few tips for your Spring Clean Resume:

    1. Anything over ten years old can be scrapped.

Unless it is directly related to the job you are applying for, most employers only want ten years of work history at most. Plus, if you list thirty years of employment, that human resources person now knows that you are around 50 years old. Don't age yourself out of a great job!

    2. Spruce up your language.

Every job description is different, and so should every resume you submit. Mimic the "buzz words" that the company uses. Show them that you are familiar with their company, their language, and their interests.

    3. Update your references.

When asked to provide references, make sure that you list people who have worked with you in the last five years. That guy from high school? Perhaps he's not the most relevant person you could list. Focus on recent coworkers, employers, or even teachers.

These small changes to your resume can make a big difference in your job search!
