Women Veterans
A place to discuss the special issues that come with being a woman
veteran.
THE
DEAR JANE CAMPAIGN
The
Business and Professional Women Foundation has launched a campaign
to bridge the gap between female veterans and those currently deployed.
This is a great opportunity to share your
experience about how you felt being discharged from the military and
transitioning back into a civilian lifestyle.
You can provide some helpful tips
that you've learned along the way such as the best resources to use when
searching for new employment or where to go for shelter, food clothing
and even how to apply for veterans benefits.
Be a guiding light for those coming after you.
This letter can be submitted a nonymously or if
you're comfortable, you can provide your name.
If you prefer to submit an anonymous letter, include
your military branch, rank and dates of service.
Can't decide what to include in your letter?
Here are some suggestions provided
by the BPW Foundation:
• What do you wish you had known
at the time of your separation?
• What tools did you use to find
meaningful employment?
• How did you ease back into your
family life?
• What could have made the
transition easier?
• What (if anything) would you do
differently to jump-start your post-military employment?
These letters will be given to deployed females as a reference tool.
The first
batches of letters were sent to commemorate Veterans Day 2009.
Everyone's experience is different
and you all have overcome different obstacles while transitioning from
the military, but each and every story can make a difference in a female
veteran's life.
