health and wellness

Picture
Wellness encompasses physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental, and occupational aspects. Take a look below at the different types of health and wellness and how you can incorporate them in your everyday life.

Physical

Picture
As a goal, strive for 30 minutes per day of physical activity. This includes cleaning, walking, dancing, anything that raises your heart rate for an extended period of time.
Physical activity can help improve your mood, prevent diseases, boost energy, and help with weight management. All of these help your overall health.
Have less than 30 minutes? No problem! Check the links below for quick exercises, activities, and recommendations for physical activity. Looking to workout with others? Check out the Riverwalk, community parks (basketball anyone?), or check the library or community boards for exercise classes. Get moving!

Emotional

here are five main components of emotional wellbeing. These include
1) Connecting with others- Start small by saying hello to someone you see everyday. Maybe a neighbor, co-worker, someone on the bus. Connect with friend and family, reach out!
2) Physical activity- Exercising releases endorphins that work to boost your mood. Add in music and you'll move your way to a better mood.

3) Learning a new skill- Two benefits--you have a new skill to show off your talents and you worked your brain. Whether it's dancing, singing, painting, wood working, time to pick up a skill!
4) Giving to others- This can be anything, a compliment, hug, coffee, anything small to let someone know they matter. In turn, you'll feel better knowing you brightened someone's day.
5) Mindfulness- Be in the moment. Do you ever go back and look at the hundreds of pictures you took or remember the game you were playing when you were at an event? Take time and enjoy the people you're with and the events happening. Your mind will be at ease and you'll have more fun!

Environmental

Picture
Environmental Wellbeing is more than where you live. It includes spending time outdoors, picking up trash (inside or outside), looking at nature, cleaning your space, and the ability to see different colors, shapes, and hear different sounds.
Open your windows, if possible, take a walk around the block, declutter and clean your house, and see what a difference a change can make!

Occupational

Occupational health focuses on the way your work affects your health. Keep your mind stimulated! How can you promote positive occupational wellbeing?
1) Try and walk outside on your breaks. Get a change of scenery.
2) Talk to your coworkers. Make your work environment someplace you want to go!

3) Focus on your work and make sure it's something that stimulates your brain! Working on something that seems "mindless"? Try and focus on something specific, counting how many cans fit on the shelf, try and memorize what shelf things are located. Anything that keeps you thinking.
